The POC Tectal Race Helmet is POC’s latest offering for MTB riders and provides a greater level of head coverage than is the norm for mountain bike helmets, particularly around the temples and back of the head (areas which are particularly vulnerable in a crash). What this means in practice is that you can really focus on the twists and turns of the trail and feel free in the knowledge that you are well protected and covered in the noggin area. This consumate mtb helmet features large vents (which have been designed through extensive testing - involving a wind tunnel!), an adjustable visor, and a precise and easy to adjust indexed dial fit system.
The Tectal Race uses much of the tech from POC’s other helmets to ensure integrity and durability whilst keeping weight down. This includes design features such as aramid reinforcement (where exceptionally strong synthetic polyamide is used at strategic locations to enhance structural stability) and the combination of a unibody shell with an EPS liner, which enables a lighter weight foam to be used for the helmet’s construction. The Tectal Race also features a goggle strap clip, so if you’re a goggle fan you’re well covered in this regard.
One of the main reasons POC helmets are so popular with riders is because of their comfortable ‘barely there’ fit and, although the Tectal Race is not as featherlight as some of their road cycling helmet offerings, it is subtle enough to forget about, which we think is always a good thing as far as helmets are concerned. It also comes in some rather tasty colour combinations!
